Important information for disabled drivers and passengers

disabled carChanges in the interpretation and the administration by the Revenue Commissioners of the legislation relating to the Disabled Driver and Passenger Tax Relief Scheme are to be implemented from the 1st January 2012.

The Revenue Commissioners will be introducing changes in relation to their interpretation and the administration of the Disabled Driver and Passenger Tax Relief Scheme.

This will result in the following changes to the way the system is currently administered:


Benefits for Disabled Drivers and Passengers

Motorised Transport Grant

From 1 January 2005 the maximum grant is €4,806. 60

The Motorised Transport Grant is a means tested health board payment for people in Ireland with disabilities who need to buy a car or have a car or other vehicle adapted in order to enable them to drive and, as a result, earn a living.
