Housing (Special)

Access_RampMain features applicable in new housing in order to ensure visitability by people with disabilities, as required by amended Part M of the Building Regulations, 2000.

Accessible entrance to the dwelling site or plot. A gateway or other opening with clear opening width of 800 mm suffices.
Level or gently sloping approach to the main door of the dwelling. The approach should have a firm surface, a clear unobstructed width of 900 mm, and a gradient which is preferably not steeper than 1:20 and, in any case, not steeper than 1:12.

In the past, people with physical disability had two choices about where they lived: either at home with, typically, a family member providing care for them or, if that was not possible, in residential care which often meant a hospital bed in a geriatric or psychiatric hospital simply because there was no other support.

Local Authority House Purchase Loans: A single income household where the income was below €32,000 in the previous tax year may qualify for a house purchase loan. The income limit for a two income household is €80,000 (a special formula is used to calculate your income). Where a person`s only source of income is a social welfare payment they are most unlikely to be considered.
