Staff Training

Disability Awareness Training

Usually focuses on issues relating to working with people with disabilities. It addresses the use of language and behaviour as people with little or no experience of working with a person with a disability can feel anxious and apprehensive.

Disability Equality Training

Explores equal opportunities and diversity. This training places disability in a wider framework of social exclusion, stressing the need for companies to embrace diversity throughout company policies and practices-thus creating opportunity for all.

These pointers will aid communication:

Introduce and use a new ‘vocabulary’ of terms that enable your staff to talk about these issues without clumsiness or embarrassment. This could be addressed during disability awareness training
Produce clear and accurate information for internal use and feature this prominently in promotional literature

The best disability awareness training is through the employment of a person with a disability.
